Buy Local
Why should you by local, including beef?
As a consumer myself, I personally prefer to know where my food actually comes from. It does not matter whether it is vegetables, poultry, fish, pork, or beef that my family enjoys.
Buying local is a major concern of mine to know that I can drive and meet the people producing and processing my food. I am comfortable with the inspection of my food from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture (NCDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that they are looking out for my safety in the food chain.
I prefer to buy from local producers and I am willing to pay more to ensure my food is wholesome for my family. I have never understood why food purchased in stores cannot be labeled for country or state of origin, so I can personally choose where my food comes from.
Not all consumers have access to research where their food comes from. I am appalled that other countries can use pesticides that are banned in the United States and can ship their food into this country creating a disadvantage for our farmers to compete. My solution is to buy as much food produced locally as I possibly can.
